Although not strictly a mod band, Fast Cars’ earliest gigs were at the Sydney (Australia) mod revival headquarters, the Sussex Hotel.
In 1981, Martin Plaza from Mental As Anything produced their debut 12-inch EP Annual and single Saturday’s Girl b/w No Love Today. Both records were released on the local Method label.
The group broke up soon after, but reconvened a year later when they issued a cassette, simply called Fast Cars, and a second single on Method, Love Child – an energy charged take on the Motown classic.
The band once again built up a strong following via a solid circuit of pub gigs, but the departure of their drummer and two cases of glandular fever forced the band off the road for good.
