Michael Bentine’s Bumblies came from the planet Bumble and resembled large pears.

The star of the show was the hard-of-thinking Bumblie number three, a creation in the mould of Eccles from The Goon Show.

The series was filmed by Richard Dendy and Associates and first screened on Valentine’s Day 1954.

Michael Bentine passed away in November 1996 as a result of prostate cancer. He was 74.
