From their earth headquarters on Zero Zero Island in the Atlantic Ocean, Colonel Bleep (from the planet Futura), Scratch (a Stone Age caveman), and Squeak (a cowboy hat-wearing puppet) battled intergalactic bad guys such as hooded archvillain Doctor Destructo (the master criminal of the universe), The Black Knight of Pluto, and Black Patch (a displaced space pirate).
Colonel Bleep shot beams of “futomic energy” from his antennae – these beams functioned most frequently as a raygun.
Created and written by Robert D Buchanan and Jack Schleh and originally aired as a segment on Uncle Bill’s TV Club, Colonel Bleep was the first colour cartoon series made for television.
Local newscaster Noah Tyler provided narration for the show and provided virtually all of the vocal characterisations, although most of the characters were mute.
Reruns of the show on American television continued as least as late as 1971.
