This CBS crime drama series starred private investigator and attorney Roy Markham (Welsh-born actor Ray Milland), a sophisticate who mingled well whether attending a cocktail party at The Plaza or sipping a beer at Coney Island.
Markham was tough, liked to do his own investigating, and would tackle any case as long as he believed his clients were telling him the truth. If they lied, he dropped them as a client. His fees varied from the very considerable to his wealthier and corporate clients to nothing at all for those who desperately needed his services but had few financial means.
Markham was based in New York City but travelled the world (interiors were shot in Hollywood, while location shooting took place in many locations, including New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and Europe).
In the early episodes of the series, Markham had an assistant called John Riggs (Simon Scott), but the character was written out after only a few episodes had aired, leaving Markham to solve crimes solo.
Guest stars included DeForest Kelley, John Banner, Patrick Macnee, J Pat O’Malley, Joi Lansing, and Gena Rowlands.
