Tim Forester (Patrick Barr) is a successful and well-known portrait painter. His younger brother is killed in a car crash in Italy on the Amalfi-Positano road, and a girl who was in the car at the time is also reported killed.
Forester is commissioned to paint a portrait of the dead girl by her father, using photographs and one of her dresses as models. This apparently straightforward, if somewhat unusual task becomes exciting when an unknown person enters the story to try to stop the completion of the picture.
Portrait of Alison was television thriller writer Francis Durbridge’s fourth BBC TV serial. A feature film adaptation was produced by Anglo Amalgamated Films the same year, starring Robert Beatty as Forrester.
