The number-one troubleshooter of the Stenrud Corporation, a large heavy-construction firm specialising in both domestic and foreign building projects, was a grizzled old veteran named Kodiak (Keenan Wynn).
He had held that post for five years, during which time he had coped with the problems involved in building highways, dams, airfields, skyscrapers, and atomic installations all over the world.
The pace had started to become too much for him and he was in the slow process of training his assistant, Frank Dugan (Bob Mathias), to take over. Frank was all the things that Kodiak was not – well educated, socially polished, soft-spoken, and innocent of the evil ways of the world.
As the two of them travelled from assignment to assignment – in a 24-foot Airstream Land Yacht caravan – they learned from each other and acquired qualities that would stand them in good stead in the future.
Kodiak became somewhat less gruff and uncivilised and Frank became stronger and more assertive.
Scotty (Bob Fortier), Skinner (Carey Loftin), Jim (Bob Harris), and Slats (Chet Allen) were crew members who made frequent appearances.
