Produced and directed by Robin Nash, this six-part BBC1 comedy series was a vehicle for comedienne Beryl Reid (her first-ever TV series) and featured a combination of her old and new material, including favourite characters Winifred Johnson and Monica the pigtailed schoolgirl.
Reid appeared in revue-style sketches with Hugh Paddick providing support throughout, while 29-year-old Leeds schoolteacher and songwriter Jake Thackray performed his own humorous compositions, accompanying himself on the guitar.
The series debuted on Monday 4 March 1968. Beryl’s guests included Sheila Hancock and Joan Sims.
Beryl Reid died on 13 October 1996 from complications following knee surgery. She was 77.
