This fortnightly seven-part Sunday afternoon series from ITV followed the Enid Blyton-esque escapades of a group of three children during the German occupation of the Channel Islands in June 1940.
Terry Benson (14-year-old Jeremy Bulloch), Cliff Delamere (12-year-old Murray Yeo) and his sister, Carol (16-year-old Irene French), create as much havoc as they can for Major Heinrich Wolf (Joseph Fürst) and his batman Kurt (Scot Finch) – who are billeted at the Delamere’s shop and try in vain to make the children toe the line – with the help of a secret radio and Cliff and Carol’s big sister, Jean (Etain O’Dell).
Terry’s father, Tom (Leslie Sands), is a fisherman who is undecided about where his duty lies – to escape to Britain and join the Services or to stay and look after his son.
Director Charles Jarrott made the ABC series as gripping as any of the outstanding plays he had directed for Armchair Theatre.
The three lead children came from a London stage school.
