Set in Saint Joseph, Missouri, in the 1860s, this ABC series told the story of Frank (Allen Case) and Jesse (James Dean clone, Christopher Jones) James – hard-working farmers who are forced into a life of crime after railroad officials kill their mother when she refuses to sell them her land.
Avenging their mother’s death, they strike and rob the Great Western Railroad and attempt to return property to the rightful survivors of innocent victims, Robin Hood-style.
The first year of the series was produced in black and white, moving to colour for the second year.
