Set in the magical land of Allakazam, this series starred professional illusionist Mark Wilson as a magician who used the tricks of his trade to outwit such nasty characters as Evilo.
Wilson was accompanied by his wife Nani and their son, Mike. The family operated a number of puppets including Basil the Baffling Bunny; Doris the Daring Dove; Charles the Charming Chicken and Bernard the Biggest Bunny in the Business.
The show had its genesis in Time For Magic, a show Wilson packaged and sold to ABC’s Dallas affiliate WFAA in 1954.
The popularity of the show spread throughout Texas where it was carried regionally. In August 1960, Kelloggs bought the show and sold it to the CBS network under its sponsorship as The Magic Land of Allakazam.
During its first year on the network, the series aired previously broadcast Hanna-Barbera cartoons including Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear and Pixie and Dixie. The cartoons were no longer shown after the second season.
In 1962, the show moved to ABC without missing a week on air.
Since the demise of Allakazam, Mark Wilson operated his own production and merchandising business and staged magic acts for many films and television series, including Wonder Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Love Boat and Columbo.
