4 x 30 minute episodes
This short-lived ABC show debuted on 8 September 1966 and starred the saucy comedienne with the foghorn voice as a madcap heiress™ who wanted nothing more than to spend money. Her square twin brother, Terence (Dick Sargent) was her exact opposite.
Both Tammy and Terence worked for their frugal Uncle, Simon Grimsley (Hiram Sherman), the president at the First Perpetual Savings Bank of New York – “The Bank With a Heart”. Tammy was in charge of “customer relations” at the bank, while Terence was one of eleven vice-presidents.
The series recounted Tammy’s persistent attempts to get her hands on her inheritance (which she wouldn’t officially inherit until she was 30) so that she could do all the uninhibited things which a madcap heiress™ is wont to do.
Despite the eternal vigilance of her skinflint Uncle Simon, who was in charge of Tammy and Terence’s trust fund, Tammy seemed capable of living in the style to which a madcap heiress™ is accustomed as long as the money held out.
Busybody housekeeper Mrs Ratchett (Maudie Prickett) was also an irritation to Tammy.
Ten episodes of the sitcom were actually filmed and edited, but only four were ever aired in the USA before the show was yanked in mid-season for sheer awfulness and replaced by The Dating Game.
The Tammy Grimes Show was the only starring role in a television series for Grimes, who returned to the stage. She passed away in 2016.
