    8 x 25 minute episodes

This BBC1 children’s series provided a lighthearted look at the characters and periods of British history – all portrayed by Derek Griffiths, Julie Stevens and Play School legend Johnny Ball (who also wrote the scripts).

The trio played over 100 different characters – from King Alfred to Queen Victoria plus every sword-bearer, peasant, monk and courtier in between – and careful editing meant dual roles were in abundance while several sequences shot on location made it all the more ridiculous (and fun).

The refreshingly original series – which had a flavour of Monty Python and The Goodies about it – was produced by BBC Manchester.
