Sheriff Sam Cade (Glenn Ford in his first television series), working out of rugged Madrid County, California (San Bernardino County was the real setting for the series), was responsible for law enforcement throughout the county in this modern Western.
He was assisted by veteran deputy J.J. Jackson (Edgar Buchanan) and three younger deputies: Arlo (Taylor Lacher), Rudy (Victor Campos) and Pete. The role of Pete was played by Glenn Ford’s real-life son, Peter.
Early in this CBS series, Joannie Little Bird (Sandra Ego) was the police dispatcher but was later replaced by Betty Ann Sundown (Betty Ann Carr), both of whom were American Indians.
The show featured an absolutely brilliant theme tune from Henry Mancini.
