LWT’s junior soap opera Doctors and Nurses – where the staff of Haven Rest Hospital were played by children and the patients by adults – debuted at 5:15 pm on Sunday 29 July 1979 and ran for six twelve-minute episodes.
Davy Jones from The Monkees guested in episode two – “The Pop Star” – on 5 August. The other actors taking part included Colin Baker, Patrick Cargill (as the Prime Minister). Ernest Clark. Liza Goddard, Elaine Stritch and Frank Windsor.
The series was produced by Tony Cornford and directed by Julian Castagna. It was devised by Maurice Murphy, with storylines by Rob Buckman and Chris Beetles. Additional writers were Colin Bostock-Smith, Andrew Marshall, and Maurice Murphy.
