These two-minute vignettes – screened on NBC on Saturday mornings between shows – were designed to familiarise American kids with the metric system.
Four superheroes – Liter Leader, Meter Man, Super Celsius and Wonder Gram (collectively known as The Metric Marvels) – used their superpowers to teach young people the ins and outs of metric measurement, accompanied by catchy songs.
The series was produced by George Newhall and Tom Yohe from the same advertising agency which made ABC’s School House Rock series. The educational consultant was Dr Odvard E Cyrli, Professor of Elementary Education at the University of Connecticut.
