Blackpool’s beloved clown, aged 60, starred in this series along with his band of merry men – clowns Jimmy Buchanan, Paul Connor and Charlie Jr, and ringmaster-cum-compere Norman Barrett.
The show was produced by BBC Manchester and recorded before an audience of schoolchildren in the round at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre under the direction of Nick Hunter.
Episodes featured comedy, music and magic and – as expected – there were regular slapstick routines with plenty of custard pies.
The first six-part series premiered on BBC1 on Friday 19 May 1972, at 5.15 pm.
