Siblings Sally and Jake live in the village of Dimbledale where their parents run the local grocery shop. Other shops include an Antiques shop, a Newsagents, a Post Office and a Village Inn.
Sally and Jake’s grandmother lives next to them and seems to constantly have a pie or cake on offer for the children.
Other regular characters include Harry the odd-job man who lives in an old converted barn and is always making and mending things, Farmer Merrie who works the fields around the village, and Sally and Jake’s lazy old cat, Sly.
Life in Dimbledale is peaceful and idyllic, so the adventures of Sally and Jake are limited to hosting a sports day, going bowling, visiting the fairground and mucking around with rollerskates.
The series – transmitted in the lunchtime slot on ITV – was narrated by Mike Savage and produced by Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall.
The characters of Sally and Jake had originated as a segment on Rainbow before making the move to their own show.
Sally and Jake and their mother and father,
and Granny and Sly the cat and Harry too,
All of them live in a village called Dimbledale,
Where there’s always lots of things to do
