Iain Cuthbertson of Budgie fame starred as John Sutherland in this BBC drama series.
Sutherland was a procurator-fiscal (a position unique to the Scottish legal system which is responsible for making decisions on whether to bring prosecutions, much like an American District Attorney) in the (fictional) small, west coast Scottish fishing village of Glendoran.
John Sutherland was a dour character who frequently had to investigate further the cases which were brought to him by the local police. Many episodes also featured the Fiscal prosecuting in court, sometimes extracting unexpected evidence and surprising confessions.
The gentle drama and beautiful locations around the Argyll coastal resort of Oban proved popular with viewers and the show was a great success for the BBC, running for five series and attracting audiences of up to 17 million.
Iain Cuthbertson died in Glasgow on 4 September 2009.
