Time for Timer

1 9 7 3 – 1 9 9 8 (USA)

Time for Timer was the collective title of a series of American nutrition and fitness-related public service announcements that aired on ABC’s Saturday morning programming block from 1973 to 1998.

The animated 30-second and one-minute shorts were named for the main character: a yellow, microscopic-sized blob with long arms and legs who wore a bow tie and top hat (and sometimes a cowboy hat).

He was said to represent the body’s biological clock, in charge of when it was time to do things such as eat and sleep. Thus Timer promoted healthy eating and personal hygiene for children, utilising clever songs and animation.

The shorts were produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. Timer’s voice was provided by actor Lennie Weinrib.
