Newlyweds Annie (Mary Tyler Moore) and Nick (Denis Arndt) McGuire live at 235 West Perry Street in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Annie – a bleeding heart liberal – is the deputy coordinator of community relations for the city of New York. She takes the ferry from Bayonne to New York and works in the Municipal Building (Room 805) in Manhattan.
Annie was married and divorced once before and is the mother of 12-year-old Lewis (Bradley Warden).
Her new husband – a Republican – is a structural engineer with the firm of McGuire and Conrad in Bayonne. Nick is a widower and the father of 14-year-old Lenny (Adrian Brody) and nine-year-old Debbie (Cynthia Marie King).
The new couple must also deal with Annie’s idealist liberal activist mother, Emma (Eileen Heckart) and Nick’s staunchly conservative father, Red (John Randolph), the owner of Red’s All-American Grill in Bayonne.
The series never got off the bottom of the Nielsen ratings chart and was axed after only six airings.
