In this spinoff from The Jeffersons, Marla Gibbs starred as Florence Johnston, who left her position as the Jeffersons’ sassy maid to become the executive housekeeper at New York’s ritzy St. Frederick Hotel.
Also featured were Larry Linville (Major Frank Burns from M*A*S*H) as Lyle Block, the manager; Liz Torres as Elena, Florence’s assistant; Patrick Collins as Earl, the dimwitted house detective; Robert Costanzo as Hank, the maintenance man; Ruth Brown as Betty, the maid; and Jordan Gibbs as Dennis, the bellhop.
The jokes were obvious, and the characters were superficial, and – after a four-week spring tryout in April 1981 – the series was not renewed. Florence returned to the Jeffersons’ employ the following season.
