Foofur (voiced by Frank Welker) was a good-natured blue hound dog whose late owner bequeathed a mansion to him in his will.
Foofur then spirited some of his fellow four-legged friends from the Bowser Busters dog pound truck to join him at the manor, including Hazel (Pat Carroll), a grand dame; Fritz-Carlos (Jonathan Schmock), her Fernando Lamas-sounding husband with a handlebar moustache; Louis (Dick Gautier), a bulldog with a gruff Brooklyn dialect; and Annabell (Susan Tolsky), a sheepdog in love with Louis.
Fencer (Eugene Williams), a black alley cat with a samurai headband and a yen for karate, and Rocki (Christina Lange), Foofur’s niece, also became tenants.
The residents found that their luxurious lifestyle did not prevent them from being targets of crimes by greedy humans and even cats and rats.
Their most persistent nemesis was Mrs Escrow (Susan Silo), who checked up on Foofur from time to time to make sure he followed the letter of his master’s will.
Her pet chihuahua Pepe (Don Messick) knew of the illegal existence of the other pooches, but his plans to expose them to his mistress always failed.
The Hanna-Barbera series ran for two seasons of original episodes on NBC with each show containing two separate stories.
