Six episodes of this Thames Television sitcom originally aired on ITV in 1984 as The Kit Curran Radio Show, with six more airing on Channel 4 in 1986 with the title reduced to simply Kit Curran.
Set in the fictional UK location of Newtown (actual exteriors were filmed in Bracknell, Berkshire), the series starred Denis Lawson as devious and self-obsessed Radio Newtown DJ Kit Curran, with Paul Brooke as his lazy and “slow blooded” (overweight) technical operator Les Toms, and Clive Merrison as angry, sweary newsreader Damien Appleby.
Kit clashed in the first series with new station boss Roland Simpson (Brian Wilde) and was eventually fired, along with Les and Clive.
In the second series, Kit tried to start his own pirate radio station in rented offices in Brentford, Middlesex, while fighting for the affection of (uninterested) neighbouring business owner, Pamela Scott (Lindsay Duncan).
Meanwhile, Kit and his pals – operating as Curran & Associates – did pretty much anything (including performing house conversions, running a dating agency and installing double-glazing) to try and make some cash.
The series was created (and initially written) by Andy Hamilton (of Drop The Dead Donkey fame) and recorded in front of a live studio audience.
