Sarah Mathews (Kimberly Farr) is the manager of the clothing department of Macy’s in Manhattan. Her husband, Ed (Hugh Maguire), owns the Mathews Sporting Goods Store in New Jersey. They are the parents of teenage boys Danny (Chris Young) and Peter (David Moscow) and infant daughter Melissa (played by Allison and Melissa Lindsey).
When Sarah decides it is time to return to work after her maternity leave, she applies for a live-in housekeeper at the Broder Domestic Agency. The agency finds Lisa Wells (Lisa Patrick), a beautiful 21-year-old blonde Australian girl (it is not explained why the agency had to go to Australia to find the Mathews a nanny/housekeeper).
Lisa grew up in the Australian Outback and lived in a small house with seven brothers and sisters. She now has her own room at the Mathews house (at 30 Hogan Place in New Jersey) and the responsibility of caring for Melissa and watching over Danny and Peter.
Danny and Peter attend Whitney High School. Peter, a freshman, is more interested in the clarinet than girls, and he and Lisa get along fine together.
Danny, a self-absorbed sophomore, is just the opposite – He’s a girl-crazy teenager who can’t believe a girl like Lisa is living in their house (he has set his goal to catch a peek of Lisa in the nude).
Lisa’s experiences in America as she cares for the Mathews children are the focal point of the series.
Muriel (Jenny O’Hara) is their neighbour; Gator (Lightfield Lewis) is Danny’s friend and co-conspirator.
The CBS sitcom – an obvious rip-off of Mr Belvedere – received a critical mauling and lasted just nine episodes.
