1 9 8 2 – 1 9 8 3 (Australia)
10 x 50 minute episodes
This Aussie police drama series from ABC TV was based on the activities of three investigators attached to the (fictitious) Missing Persons Special Investigation Bureau – the MPSIB of the title.
Mike Preston was Sergeant Noel Braden, the pipe-smoking head of the department. Barry Quin played Senior Constable Gary Manone, with his real-life wife Peta Toppano as Constable Lisa Hesse.
The short-lived series featured over-plotted and contrived scripts, heavy-handed dialogue (some of the lines sounded like they had been warmed over from old episodes of Homicide), stagey action and shallow acting with the squad’s investigations taking on the tone of the Famous Five working out the clues to the missing treasure.
