How do you keep from getting bored when you’ve been married for 10 years?
Charlie Wayne (James Sloyan) does it by writing romance novels under the name Crystal Love, while his wife Madeline (Madeline Kahn) does it by staying trendy – she does aerobics, takes a pottery class or discovers the joys of cooking with tofu and seaweed.
Charlie has to contend with his editor Annie McIntyre (Francine Tacker), who would like to get him between soft covers. He also writes romantic short stories for the Sunday magazine section of a newspaper called The Outlook.
His best friend is Robert Leone (Louis Giambalvo), a womanising travel agent who is divorced from Doris (Jesse Welles) – who happens to be Madeline’s best friend.
Charlie and Madeline live at 217 Faircourt Avenue in the Eastfield section of Chicago.
The series was based on the British sitcom, Pig In The Middle.
Madeline Kahn developed ovarian cancer in 1998. She underwent treatment, continued to work and married in October 1999. However, the disease spread rapidly, and she died on 3 December 1999 at the age of 57.
