1 9 8 8 (Australia)
A game show about Australia by Australian broadcaster ABC. Hosted by John Derum with Alan Glover acting as announcer.
Contestants competed in teams of two, a child and an adult who must be related. The prizes were modest – like t-shirts, Akubra hats, haversacks and Drizabone coats – although the grand prize was a holiday for a family of four in a “fantasy Australian resort” of the contestants’ choice.
The show debuted on 25 July 1988, replacing EastEnders in the 6:30 timeslot on the ABC.
One critic described it thusly: ” If you started with Sale of the Century and took out the prizes, the sex, the fun, the professionalism, the interest, the energy and the tension, you’ve got The Oz Game.”
