This sports-oriented comedy from HBO focused on Arliss Michaels (Robert Wuhl), the owner of the Arliss Michaels Management Team, a sports agency that went to extremes to represent its clients.
Arliss was a highly unethical agent who would wheel and deal to get the best exposure possible for his clients, no matter who he hurt along the way.
Rita Wu (Sandra Oh) was Arliss’s no-nonsense girl Friday. She was totally devoted to her work and often the moral voice in Arliss’s life. Her only weakness was her passion for Latin golf clients.
Stanley Babson (Michael Boatman) was Arliss’s straight-laced (three-piece suit) chief financial officer.
He was a genius with numbers and would invest in any scheme that would make him money.
Kirby Carlisle (Jim Turner) was Arliss’s old college chum, an ex-football star who now worked as an agent. He was a junior partner but was easily distracted from what he was doing by his vices – gambling and women.
The show featured appearances from dozens of real-life sports stars, including basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, baseball player Jason Giambi and figure skater Tara Lipinski.
Arli$$ survived for seven seasons before finally being cancelled in 2002.
