This ABC comedy series starred Corey Parker as Joel Goodman and Matt Roth as Russell Evans, longtime buddies and the owners of the Blue Skies Trading Company – an up-and-coming mail-order business they run from a loft in Boston.
Joel and Russell started Blue Skies to rip off the L.L. Bean Catalogue. Their first product was the Blue Skies Hat.
While Joel tries to run the company, Russell tests the products (“I live on a higher plain and thus don’t feel the pain when the products we reject go wrong”). Unfortunately, their accountant Kenny (Richard Kind) – who also happens to be Joel’s cousin – steals their first-year profits.
Enter Harvard graduate in business Eleanor “Ellie” Baskin (Julia Campbell), who sorts out the books and keeps the floundering company afloat.
Ellie did her undergraduate work at Sarah Lawrence and worked as a summer intern at the White House. She has an MBA but wants to use her knowledge to get in on the ground floor of a starting company and take it to the top.
Other regular characters included receptionist Eve (Adeliah Barnes); Ellie’s cousin Kate (Cindy Ambuehl); and her father Henry Baskin (John Forsythe), the owner of Baskin Industries, who constantly tried to convince Ellie to give up her foolish dream and work for him at his global company.
