Lazy 22-year-old bachelor Matt Bailey (Matthew Perry) enjoyed a life of ease living at home with his indulgent mother, Grace (Marian Mercer), while playing the dating field.
Things changed when his divorced older sister, Vanessa (Diana Canova), moved in with her kids, Abby (Anndi McAfee) and Lucas (Scott McAfee).
Freeloading Matt and conservative Vanessa immediately began sparring, and with two kids around, Matt began to learn unaccustomed lessons in responsibility.
Matt worked as a cub reporter at a newspaper where Ben Brookstone (Alan Oppenheimer) was the gruff editor, Walter Peters (Dan Schneider) was a dim-witted reporter, and Laura (Brooke Theiss) was a foxy photographer who Matt would have liked to bed.
The series originally aired on Wednesday nights between The Wonder Years and Home Improvement, but ABC pulled the show off the air after five low-rated episodes and decided to burn off the rest of the series on Friday nights.
A year later, Matthew Perry won the role of Chandler Bing on Friends.
