Comedian Louie Anderson starred in this short-lived CBS comedy as a psychotherapist in Duluth, Minnesota, whose honesty with patients and friends often got him into trouble.
Fortunately for him, he was such an endearing guy with a wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humour that almost nobody could remain upset with him for long.
Louie’s best friend, Curt (Bryan Cranston), was a no-nonsense detective with the Duluth police department who was having marital problems, and he and his wife, Sandy (Laura Innes), were receiving counselling from Louie.
Working with Louie at a local HMO were his upbeat, wheelchair-bound assistant Helen (Nancy Becker Kennedy) and talented but socially immature physician Jake Reinhardt (Paul Feig).
Kimmy (Kimmy Robertson) was a loopy waitress in the HMO’s coffee shop.
Chatterbox Gretchen (Kate Hodge) – a free spirit who recently arrived from Los Angeles searching for a simpler life – became Louie’s platonic housemate.
CBS cancelled the show after six episodes aired and Anderson went on to host Family Feud for three seasons.
Louie Anderson passed away in January 2022 at the age of 68 as a result of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
