Max Monroe (former disc jockey Shadoe Stevens) is a maverick detective with Precinct 57 of the Los Angeles Police Department who is so wildly unconventional and has such brazen disregard for standard police procedure that his fellow officers refuse to work with him – until he’s paired with Detective Charlie Ivers (Bruce A Young).
Charlie is a by-the-book detective who often finds working with Max not only contradicting everything he was taught but also a good bet for losing his job. Charlie tries to convince Max to stay within the limits of the law but doesn’t have much success.
Max is single and a ladies’ man; Charlie is married to Loretta.
The CBS series premiered on 5 January 1990 and ran for just a single season of eight episodes. The theme tune was performed by Swiss synth-pop pioneers Yello.
