    Mercy Point

    1 9 9 8 – 1 9 9 9 (USA)
    9 x 60 minute episodes

Mercy Point was a space station hospital on the far fringes of the galaxy, where doctors worked on both terrestrial and extraterrestrial patients. The year was 2249.

Dr Grote Maxwell (Joe Morton), an alien physiologist, was one of the top surgeons at the hospital, and Dr Haylen Breslauer (Maria del Mar) was a senior surgeon whose perky young sister, Dru (Alexandra Wilson) – with whom she didn’t get along – had just arrived as a new resident physician.

Playboy medico Caleb ‘CJ’ Jurado (Brian McNamara) was the libidinous resident hunk, who tried so hard to be George Clooney that McNamara should’ve sent the ER heartthrob a slice of his salary,

No-nonsense shrink Dr Rema Cook (Gay Thomas Wilson) was a much-published doctor concerned with patient rights, and Dr Harris DeMilla (Joe Spano) was the Chief of Staff.

ANI (Android Nursing Interface) was the extremely efficient and attractive synthetic life-form head nurse who was resented by her live subordinates.

Dr Batung (Jordan Lund) was an insensitive alien surgeon – a hideous behemoth with a tail that curled over his shoulder – with a lousy bedside manner, and Hippocrates (Trey Callaway) was the talking computer that monitored patient status.

Despite the science fiction slant, the extraterrestrial ER setting recycled every medical show cliché imaginable and the show lasted only three episodes before it was pulled from the schedule. UPN aired the remaining completed episodes on consecutive Thursdays in July the following year.
