Tony Carpenter (Dennis Waterman) is a self-made millionaire and owner of a booming executive car hire business.
He’s made his way to the top but struggles his way through life, dealing with a snooty wife, Ruth (Judy Buxton), troublesome teenage daughter, opinionated mother and quirky domestic staff – Mrs Wembley the housekeeper and cook (Joan Sims), Sam the chauffeur (Sam Kelly) and his commonsense Scottish personal assistant, Maggie (Jenna Russell) – all of whom who he treats more like friends, much to his wife’s disgust.
Sam has been Tony’s lifetime friend and wishes his boss – who he jokingly calls “master” – was a little truer to his East End roots.
