40 x 50 minute episodes
This light-hearted police drama series ran for five series and centred around portly Henry Crabbe (Richard Griffiths) – a long-serving Detective Inspector on the verge of retirement from the police force (having been shot in the line of duty).
He sets up a small gourmet restaurant (called Pie In The Sky) with his accountant wife, Margaret (Maggie Steed) but his former boss, Assistant Chief Constable Fisher (Malcolm Sinclair) constantly calls Crabbe back on duty.
The supporting cast included an assortment of police officers working with Henry – including Cambridge (Bella Enahoro), Guthrie (Derren Litten) and Morton (Mary Woodvine), restaurant staff John (Ashley Russell), Linda (Alison McKenna), Nicola (Samantha Janus) and Sally (Marsha Thomason) and kitchen staff Steve (Joe Duttine) and Gary (Nicholas Lamont).
The building used as the restaurant is located on the High Street in the Old Town in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
