This animated CBS series from the creators of Earthworm Jim was set in a futuristic era where a mega-corporation known as Moloch Industries controls most of the planet Earth (as well as several other planets).
In his quest to become the ruler of the world, Mr Moloch (voiced by Jim Cummings) initiates “Project GKR” (Geno-Kinetic Research) and hires brilliant (and slightly insane) mastodon Dr Maston (Charlie Adler) to create a shapeshifting artificial human with awesome powers to do his bidding.
Maston creates an artificial human – “Geeker” – but he is accidentally stolen from the bad guys by Lady MacBeth (Cree Summer) – Becky to her friends, a biochemical rebel who burglarises the laboratory for equipment to sell on the black market.
Under her brusque facade, she develops a soft spot for Geeker – who has not yet been fully programmed and has a child’s mind – and decides to keep him around.
Another friend, Noah the dinosaur (Brad Garrett) – a talking, breath-mint-loving, red-cap-wearing Tyrannosaurus Rex – acts as their protector as they try to escape Moloch and his green-skinned goons and halt his conquest of the world.
While Geeker’s moronic behaviour was meant to be funny, the producers often crossed the line to make that point. In some scenes, after Geeker unwittingly uses his superpowers to save himself and his friends from doom, he rocks back and forth with his thumb in his mouth, drooling and babbling. While some kids may have found Geeker’s stupidity hilarious, many parents may not have appreciated the humour.
The series was cancelled after a single season.
