    8 x 30 minute episodes

This short-run BBC sitcom revolves around three middle-aged women who have decided to share a house together Golden Girls-style.

Annie (Gwen Taylor) has been left by her husband, Beatrice (Penelope Wilton) has never married, and Rachel (Jill Baker) – we are led to believe – is a grieving widow recalling the joys of life with Ralph (Tim Berrington).

The fact that all three women secretly remember the joys of Ralph is the running joke in the series.

Carla Lane (creator of Bread and The Liver Birds) had begun writing a second series but had to abandon it when Jill Baker and Penelope Wilton pulled out of the show after the first series.
