1 9 9 4 – 1 9 9 5 (USA)
14 x 30 minute episodes
This animated series from CBS was based on a comic book by Jim Lee and featured six freedom fighters on Earth in a centuries-long battle against evil in the galaxy.
Fighting for good was the human Grifter (voiced by Colin O’Meara), nicknamed “the G-Man,” and five alien Kherubim (pronounced “care-a-bim”) warriors: Zealot (Roscoe Handford), who was Grifter’s girlfriend; Voodoo (Ruth Marshall); a hulking green entity called Maul (Paul Mota); WarBlade (Dean McDermott), and Spartan (Rod Wilson).
Their base of operations was the skyscraper headquarters of Halo Enterprise, whose boss Jacob Marlowe (Sean McCann) gave orders to the sextet and narrated the show’s introductions.
Opposing them was Lord Helspont (Maurice Dean Wint), a humanoid with a smouldering skull who led the Daemonites – gargoylish aliens who could control others’ minds.
The episodes were characterised by loud, violent battle scenes, spectacular hardware, and a roaring rock soundtrack.
In the last original episode before the summer rerun cycle, the WildC.A.T.S managed to successfully rid the galaxy of Helspont and the Daemonites, vanquishing the latter even after they thought they had gained ultimate control from an orb of pure evil.
C.A.T. stood for “Covert Action Teams.”
