26 x 30 minute episodes
In the 1800s, an irradiated comet hits the US southwest, creating a miles high mesa and transforming the cattle trapped on top of the mesa into bipeds who could talk.
Inspired by old tales of the Wild West, this new bovine community emulates that era’s way of life but Cowtown is run by greedy and corrupt regulators, Mayor Oscar Bulloney (voiced by Michael Greer) and Sheriff Terrorbull (Joe Piscopo) – who disguises himself as The Masked Bull to commit crimes – and there are many ruffians and bandits at large.
Led by Marshal Moo Montana (voiced by Pat Fraley), a group of peacekeepers known as C.O.W-Boys – including deputies Dakota Dude (Jim Cummings) and the Cowlorado Kid (Jeff Bennett) – uphold the law and protect the cow cows of Moo Mesa.
They adhere to their own Code Of the West (C.O.W) which includes: Never sleep with your spurs on; Always clean up after your horse; Watch your tail when crossing a field of cactus; Never, ever chew your cud in public, and To err is human, to forgive, bovine.
The villains of Moo Mesa include Barney Finkleberg (Tim Curry) – who uses the alias, Jacques La Beef; Skull Duggery (Jim Cummings); Shock Holliday (Michael Bell); Cow Belle (Ruth Buzzi); Longhorn Silver (Brad Garrett), The Great Bovini (Dorian Harewood) and Barb Wire Babs (Kate Mulgrew).
Feminine charm is provided by saloon owner and former showgirl, Lily Bovine (Charity James) and Golden Cud Mine operator, Cowlamity Kate (Kay Lenz).
The series aired as part of ABC’s Saturday morning lineup.
