Playwright Clive Exton provided six stories based on sensational murder cases of the 20th century for London Weekend Television. Debuting on Friday 18 September 1970, the series attempted to recreate the minds and motives of the killers.

The first play was set in the notorious 10 Rillington Place, Notting Hill, with Timothy Evans (Don Hawkins) accused of murder and John Reginald Halliday Christie (Hugh Burden) as the chief prosecution witness at his trial.

Other episodes featured serial killer Peter Kurten (Nigel Green, pictured above with Yootha Joyce) and seaside confidence tricksters-turned-murderers Rosaline Fox (Angela Baddeley) and her son Sidney (Dudley Sutton).

Featured actors included Ronald Fraser, John Nettleton, John Castle and Rosemary McHale.
