Sandy Stockton (Sandy Duncan) was a sweet and naive young woman from Taylorville in downstate Illinois who was experiencing big city life for the first time as a student at UCLA in California.
She also worked part-time as an actress in television commercials through the Prescott Advertising Agency – run by Maggie Prescott (Nita Talbot) – and was befriended by her star-struck neighbour Alice (Valorie Armstrong).
Sandy was also friendly with her landlord, Pat Harwell, (Henry Beckman) and his wife, Kate (Kathleen Freeman).
During the run of the show, Sandy Duncan needed emergency eye surgery, and production was halted. The following season, Sandy was back in The Sandy Duncan Show, again as Sandy Stockton, but with an entirely new set of circumstances, writers, producers, co-stars, and a live audience.
Both Funny Face and The Sandy Duncan Show used the same theme song called The Kind of Girl She Is, written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and both shows used the same photo album pictures during the opening credits.
