1 9 7 7 – 1 9 8 2 (USA)
144 x 30 minute episodes
This series was created following the successful television documentaries In Search of Ancient Astronauts (1973) – based on the book Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken, In Search of Ancient Mysteries (1974), and The Outer Space Connection (1975). All were hosted by Rod Serling, who sadly passed away in June 1975.
Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame was chosen as the host for the subsequent series, which ran weekly for 144 episodes over five years.
Each 30-minute documentary investigated mysterious or strange phenomena, often covering subjects of a supernatural or paranormal nature, but always disclaiming, “This series presents information based in part on theory and conjecture. The producer’s purpose is to suggest some possible explanations – but not necessarily the only ones – to the mysteries we will examine”.
The series was revived with host Mitch Pileggi in 2002 and again in 2018 with Zachary Quinto.
