Ron Leibman starred as “Kaz” (short for Martin Kazinski), an ex-con who got his law degree while serving a six-year prison sentence.
He didn’t let his criminal record stand in his way, but employers did until he conned his way into a plush Los Angeles law firm, persuading attorney Samuel Bennett (Patrick O’Neal) to hire him.
Kaz was a maverick who drew on all his knowledge and tricks to get clients off the hook.
Sam was everything Kaz wasn’t – well-dressed, well-spoken, well-heeled – but the two worked effectively as a team, defending people who were in deep trouble.
Kaz lived above a nightclub owned by a friend (Gloria LeRoy) and he played drums in the club band after work. The drumming helped him relax from the day’s labours and from the snubs of Bennett’s snobbish junior partner (Mark Withers).
Katie McKenna (Linda Carlson), a pretty newspaper reporter, also helped by getting cosy with Kaz.
The CBS series debuted on 24 September 1978 and ran for 22 episodes.
