Claude Akins starred as Metro Nashville police lieutenant Stonewall Jackson “Stoney” Huff (whose badge number was 99, hence the series title). Country singer, songwriter and musician Jerry Reed co-starred as his sidekick, Trace Mayne. Jerry’s character offered up the comedic relief and musical interludes.
Nashville 99 was a replacement series for The Sonny and Cher Show that was pulled from the CBS schedule.
The show featured country music personalities (including Charley Pride, Chet Atkins and Tammy Wynette) as guest stars and was shot on location at various downtown Nashville sites as well as locations such as Opryland.
There were only four episodes filmed and it was never picked up as a regular series.
