Set in the 1930s, this BBC2 comedy starred Harry Worth as William Boot, a country bumpkin who finds himself mistaken for a newspaper reporter.
Even though it was billed as a serial, it was really a vehicle for Harry to show his paces and for him to find himself once again in a succession of hilarious situations. Although there was a story of sorts running through the episodes, it wasn’t important because the writers (and Harry) concentrated on the gags.
There were a host of unforgettable supporting characters, particularly Sheila Hancock as the sidesplitting Mrs Stitch and Brian Oulton who got the opportunity to pull his funny faces as Salter.
