15 x 5 minute episodes
Premiering on Monday 17 February 1986, this animated series was based on W. Heath Robinson’s classic children’s story.
Most episodes featured 15-year-old Bill and his companions walking on the Downs where they encountered various characters who needed his help.
Bill then constructed wonderful, complex machines to solve their problems.
Bill’s family included his Uncle Crispin (a mushroom picker) and Aunt Chloe, their children (Bill’s cousins) Chad and Boadicea, and his Aunt Galladia.
The series was produced at Bevanfield Films for Central Independent Television and shown on ITV. It received an award at the London Film Festival for “Outstanding Film of the Year”.
The theme tune was the Triumphal March from Verdi’s Aida.
