    6 x 50 minute episodes

This drama series from Granada told the continuing saga of a family of Yorkshire solicitors set in the Dales in the 1950s.

Willaim Gaunt played Edward Capstick, the head of the family. Coincidentally, Gaunt had attended Giggleswick School when he was a youngster. His wife, Madge, was played by Wanda Ventham.

One of Edward’s sons, Jonty (Christopher Villiers) had followed his father into the profession – even though he wasn’t really cut out to be a solicitor – while his other son, Tony (Guy Scantlebury) had rebelled.

Jonty shared a flat with his friend Tim Harger (Jason Carter). Lesley Dunlop played Tim’s sister, Sarah.

Edward’s eccentric brother Henry (Robin Ellis) lived close by.

The scenes of the fictitious town of Bowsdale were filmed in Giggleswick, North Yorkshire, with 16th Century Rose Cottage, the former home of the late Russell Harty, used as the Capstick’s home and solicitor practice.
