In this thinly disguised dramatisation of New York’s much-publicised anti-crime ‘Guardian Angels’ patrols, ex-gang member Tony Maldonado (Benjamin Bratt) headed a group of young volunteer vigilantes called the ‘Knights of the City.’
The inner-city youths operated out of a donated church basement, where they trained in martial arts (they carried no weapons) and set out in teams of two, easily finding enough murders, rapes, and robberies to keep them busy.
Unfortunately, the Knights also had to deal with police harassment, a sensation-seeking press, and renegades within their own ranks (one Knight threw a thug from a rooftop).
At least they found time for a little romantic involvement on the side: Calvin (Don Franklin) with Leslie (Paris Vaughan), Mark (Calvin Levels) with Jake (Samantha Mathis) and Tony with Babs (Harley Kozak).
The short-lived series was scheduled against The Cosby Showon Thursday nights and performed badly in the ratings.
