Puppet dog Sebastian shared a flat with Michael Barrymore in this short-lived BBC children’s series.
While Michael larked about the dimly lit flat, surrounded by archaic clutter, dressing up and telling stories, Sebastian popped on his smoking jacket and painted (or drew) – usually illustrating the stories Michael was telling.
Sebastian was a well-spoken and cultured dog. As well as painting, he also played the violin and piano.
The afternoon series was the brainchild of writer and cartoonist, David Myers, who had previously written for Dave Allen and Tommy Cooper, and who went on to illustrate and publish several Sebastian books.
Repeats of Sebastian aired throughout 1987 and 1988 on BBC1 and BBC2.
