Sgt Jake Rizzo (Gil Gerard) is an affable sort, but he’s a typical bachelor who forgets his keys, misplaces his badge and leaves his handcuffs in the refrigerator in his messy apartment.
10-year-old Ernie Lee (Ernie Reyes Jr.) really needs a guardian. His grandfather (Keye Luke) is dying, and time is running out. Social worker Patricia Blake (Nancy Stafford) will soon have no choice but to place Ernie with a foster family.
Ernie is an unusual boy. He’s a pint-sized karate kid whose kicks and chops can put away a gang of muggers.
He has inherited mysterious powers from his grandfather, Sabasan, who, before he died, passed on the Patasani title of “The Last Electric Knight” to Ernie – and he’s good at making himself useful for Jake.
But Jake wants no part of it until he sets eyes on Patricia, who mistakenly thinks Jake does want to adopt Ernie.
Young actor Ernie Reyes, Jr., was a juvenile black belt and a veteran of martial arts competitions in real life. The karate sequences in the series were choreographed by his father, Ernie Reyes, Sr.
